On Saturday, October 17 we hosted 16 fifth graders from the Para Los Ninos School. This school serves the needs of children from the poorest families in L.A. Several of our 9th graders hosted a bagels and muffins meet and greet. We all boarded the bus and headed over to the Ballona Wetlands, where we cleaned the Ballona Creek. See photos below -- the orange bags are filled with trash. The PLN students were so amazed at what they found along the creek that they are going back to their class and will present to their classmates what they learned this weekend. After our morning at the Ballona Wetlands, we all came back to BW for pizza and lemonade, and had a discussion about what we can do to help our environment. The lessons learned:
We are all equally affected by the environment, no matter who we are.
We should avoid all products packaged in styrofoam.
We should push for laws that reduce/restrict/forbid plastic disposables.
